In one generation, printing technology moved as fast as the internet. Less Than 20 years ago, X-acto® knives, rubylith, photo-typesetting, process cameras and the like were the tools of my trade.
What used to take a team of people and a lot of time has been reduced by technology in all phases of putting ink on paper: client communication, design, production, pre-press and proofing.
What hasn't changed is the need for the designer to understand output methods and best practices as well as execute good communication and design principles.
